Back in the early 90s, educational video games help children in school. I remember playing Math Blaster and Reading Rabbit in elementary school. Math was not my strong suit but reading was. That’s why I love writing and got good grades for it. My parent didn’t want me to play non-educational games. They didn’t raise me to become a bum. My parents wanted me to become a successful person in life. Sorry for the life story, back on track with this post. Video games doesn’t have to about who is the last person standing. What about knocking someone out of a stage? Learning combos in fighting games that debatable topic. Moving from platform and solving puzzles to advance. People think making video games or playing them is a waste. Developers put their heart and soul to these IPs. Playing these games will benefit gamers.
Video games can be educational in a way. Learning video games doesn’t have to be for children. Any demographic can enjoy them. We have a whole list of educational games in decades. Some games were brought in for schools. I will named a few games that known for being educational. JumpStart series is about learning about logic in different grade level. The game range from 1st grade through 6. JumpStart is designed to be fun and engaging kids. There is a popular game called Carmen Sandiego about learning about the world. Carmen Sandiego is highly popular series. It spawns Netflix TV series and many games revolves around time, space and history. Player must find and arrest Carmen Sandiego from stealing artifacts for V.I.L.E. LeapFrong is a handheld gaming device that revolves around learning. There are popular companies trying to emulate educational games.
Captain N the Game Master is a 80s cartoon based on NES property. The overall plot is a boy named Kevin and his dog named Duke. Both of them are transported into a world called Videoland. Videoland is being taken over by Mother Brain (Metriod). Lana the king’s daughter uses the power glove to summon Kevin. She is not alone, there is Simon Belmont from Castlevania. Mega Man and Pit from Kid Icarus. While in Videoland (a world named after video games), Kevin is armed with a NES controller and Zapper. NES controller is on his waist and have abilities. NES controller can pause, fast forward and jump. Zapper can pixelize enemies and have limited ammo. Kevin and the gang are called N Team. Together Kevin and the N Team warp through wolds. Stopping Mother Brain from talking over Videoland.
I realize this is based on 80s NES era. Simon Belmont and Mega Man are not from Nintendo. Captain N show does have some Nintendo characters like Link. Note: There is no Mario or Samus Aran in this show. Other character like Dr. Wily, Ganon and other villains appeared in this show. Lets break down the main cast. Kevin is from the real world along with Duke. He is the typical hero from another world. Duke is Kevin friend and trusted sidekick on the show. Lana is the princess and not damsel in distress. Simon Belmont is a airheaded buffoon that loves himself and trying to date Lana. Mega Man always say Mega during his dialogue. Pit is very small and like arcus after end of this sentence. I don’t like Simon Belmont and other character portrayals.
Super Smash Jump Force two of the biggest manga magazine and video game company crossover ever. These two games are developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Super Smash Bros is a video game that features Nintendo characters along with third-party. The game has been relevant since Nintendo 64 days. Concept of Super Smash Bros is knock characters off stages and damage them. Smash Bros gameplay changes throughout the development of the franchise. All of your favorite Nintendo characters joins the slugfest. Popular Nintendo IPs that appear in Smash is Mario, Legend of Zelda, Kirby and many more. Each character have their signature moves and traits. For example, Yoshi eats and turn people into eggs. Kirby has a copy ability and Inkings travel through their ink.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has a larger than its predecessor. Making it one of the robust selective in Smash history. There is over 90 stages in ultimate from the past series. Super Smash Bros Ultimate has a ton of replay value and content. Player’s can go local or online to dominate the competition. Single player mode is similar to past games. All you have to do is fight your way to the final boss. Afterwards fight a new character and unlock them. World of Light is a new adventure mode just like Subspace Emissary. Miis can join in the fight. Ultimate has a lot of mini-games and tournament style game mode. People debate whether Smash Bros is a fighting game or not. In my opinion, It’s a party game not a competitive fighting game.
Super Mario cereal is a special promotion for Super Mario Odyssey video game from Kellogg’s. This is the first time Nintendo collab with Kellogg’s cereal company. There is a Pokemon cereal in the 90s went it was mainstream. I went to Target to buy this and was stoked about it. Super Mario Cereal features powerup marshmallows from the Mario series. The rest is stars and reminds me of Lucky Charms. In the back, there is a special amiibo scan to unlock new content in Odyssey. I don’t have a Nintendo Switch but someone on YouTube will try it. Super Mario Odyssey is about Mario exploring world with a new friend Cappy. Cappy can control many foes and objects it touches. Mario have access to different outfits in-game. He journey through Mushroom Kingdom to the real world.
There is a returning character named Pauline.Pauline was Mario had to rescue from Donkey Kong in the early days. She sings the main theme in Super Mario Odyssey. In the back of the box, there is five questions about Mario Myth. It’s design as a warp pipe maze with questions about Mario first name to his sidekick Luigi. Kellogg’s have a Open for Breakfast survey on how to improve your morning. Customers could collect points and earn rewards. For folks who is looking for nutrition. There is a label on the right side of the box.
Introduced in 2014, Nintendo has a new way to interact in-game with toys. An Amiibo is a figure that gives you functionality in-game such as Mario Kart 8 (unlock costumes), Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (activate Kirby Star Dash’s ability) and Mario Party 10 (which there is a mode called Amiibo Party). People compared this to Skylanders and Disney Infinity then again Activision has offered Nintendo a deal but declined. Which use the same RFID (stands for Radio-frequency identification) for interacting with the game and store data in the figurines.
Amiibos are not compatible with all Nintendo I think it’s still in progress. Each figurine is specific to just one game now all, for example you are playing Mario Kart 8 and you have storage data. If you switch to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U that data will be deleted. Maybe in a future update you might use Amiibos in multiple games.
