Otakon 2019 - Otaku and Food Do Go Together Seriously

Otakon 2019 summary

Otakon 2019 was fun but Blerdcon 2019 is better. I went on Saturday with my siblings. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center was packed than last year. It was a long line and saw some great cosplayers. After we purchase out tickets which were $60 dollars. Note: If you want to go full weekend, ti’s $100 dollars. I would recommended going one day for cheaper tickets. That being said, we went to the Artist Alley, where different artwork is showcased. My siblings were suggest they needed more variety. I agree with them and maybe next year in 2020. Afterwards, we got something to eat at a food court. I ordered a BBQ Chicken Sandwich with Chip and Cole Slaw. Pizza was on my mind but got got some at home. Next we went to the Dealer Room with Industry Area.

The Gamer Room had games like Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat 11 and Injustice 2. There is a retro games such as Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Capcom Vs SNK 2 and Arcana Heart 3. Awesome Con 2019 – 80 Years of Batman Goodness

Awesome Con 2019 - 80 Years of Batman Goodness

Awesome Con 2019

Awesome Con 2019 was average unlike last year. Not a lot of people show up on Saturday. Maybe Sunday and Friday was the best. Well technically I brought Saturday day one ticket. Although I didn’t go to Batman 80 years but I got to meet Tara Strong. Tara Strong is one of my favorite female voice actress. She is known for Bubbles (Powerpuff Girls), Twilight Sparkle (My Little Pony) and Raven (Teen Titans). Tara Strong Q & A was conflict with Batman 80 years panel. I wished there were different times. Anyways, I was mostly in the game room checking out some retro games and indies. The indie that intrigue me is #BLUD and looks like a cartoon. There were others like Grumpy Witch, Valley of Shadow and Crescendo. All of these indies are well-crafted and fun. I have signed up for betas and email mailing list.

Awesome Con 2019 - Mega Cat Studios booth

There is more indies games to share. Frightshow Fighter made a appearance and remember covering this indie. I got a hands-on experience and really enjoy it. Osunia was a prototype and plays like Harvest Moon. Sneaky Ninja was cute and casually stealthy fun game. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch soon. Here is a flash from the past. Atari Adventure is recreated to have multiplayer. Do you remember the game from Ready Player One? Now, there is more players can play instead of one. Mega Cat Studios booth was mind-blowing with recreating NES and Genesis games. Check out these guys and other indie developers I have mention. There are some indies I have played last conventions that appeared at Awesome Con.

Video Game Cosplay – New Ways to Express Your Love

Video Game Cosplay – New Ways to Express Your Love

What is video game cosplay?

Video game cosplay is a new way to express yourself and represents the characters your love. The term Cosplay comes from Japanese portmanteau following two words costume and play. Nobuyuki Takahashi attended WorldCon in 1984 and was impressed and happy of fans in costumes. Takahashi chose to coin a new world masquerade meaning “aristocratic costume”. People think cosplay is only for anime convention and comic con. That’s not the case but what about Halloween which only happen once a year in October. Cosplay has been a world-wide trend in geek culture. Whether you are a otaku, gamer, scfi and brony, there is a lot of cosplayers throughout convention.

Cosplay is not consent

Japanese is known for cosplaying such as maid cafés in Akihabara in Japan. World Cosplay Summit which is held in Japan, where cosplayers from around the globe to show off their best cosplay. It doesn’t matter what race or gender show off your favorite cosplay for that characters. During convention, if you are cosplaying someone will come up to your and ask “Can I get a picture?” 5 times out of 10 you might say yes. Take a photo of the cosplayer and say thanks. Some predator might get to frisk with cosplayers whether that person is male and female.

Anime USA 2018 – Small But Average Convention Experience In October

Anime USA 2018 – Small But Average Convention Experience In October

Less Crowd In Anime USA 2018

Last years Anime USA 2017, was just like this one. Due to winter conditions last year or insufficient funds from Black Friday. Anime USA 2018 didn’t have a huge crowd like Donald Trump Inauguration in 2018. Understandable people have families, jobs and went to other conventions this year. There was a change going to Anime USA 2018. For now on, I am going on Saturdays because I want to save money. The Maid Café was not an option ever and that Attack on Titans tea is Abysmal. Maid Café was a great but need work on some food. Anime USA 2018 was at the same location and paid $55 ticket price. Fridays and Sundays range from expensive and cheap depending on the day. While at Anime USA 2018, I went to some panels and video game room.

Nightwing cosplay at Anime USA 2018

There was video game panels but was cancelled. A lot of guests showed up, Jim Cummings voiced of Winne the Pooh and Darkwing Dark. It was Jim’s first anime convention and the panel was comedic. Handful of other guest such as voice actors Crispin Freeman, Karen Strassman, Kira Buckland, Lisa Ortiz and Monica Rial. Pixar’s John Ratzenberger and first in Anime USA history YouTubers. Anime YouTubers with million subscribers like The Anime Man, Gajin Goombah and Akidearest. All of these guest sign autographs for fans of their work. I snap some photos of some cosplayers but not a lot. In the game room, there were Tekken 7, Japanese rhythm games, Super Smash Bros and Street Fighter V. There were various retro to present games.

Blerdcon 2018 – African American Comic Con and Fandom Review

Blerdcon 2018 – African American Comic Con and Fandom Review

What is Blerdcon 2018?

Blerdcon 2018 is a small nerd convention in Virginia. The term Blerd is short for black nerd (not Andre Meadow). It creates and embrace black nerd culture and fandom. Just like any other convention, there are panels, guest, gaming tournaments and maid café. Although, I only went on Saturday because it’s cheaper than going all three days. Blerdcon embrace anime, comics and different types of culture. LGBT, disabled and international community is welcome in this event. My first impressions of Blerdcon is just like any other small convention. There were guest should as Hip Hop Trooper, Karen Ashley (Yellow Ranger and Kevin Grevioux. Cosplayers make an appearance in Blerdcon as well. I went to Blerdcon with some people I know. One of them was celebrating a birthday. At the end of the day, she enjoy herself and was magic.
