Comic book based video games has been getting better in 2021 due to fandom and passionate developers. The rise of super hero video games  has comic book fans on the edge of their seats. Note: I am not a comic book reader but I have watch movies and TV shows in the past along with present. But I owned some comic book like Suicide Squad and All New Avengers. Speaking of Suicide Squad, there a new game that Rocksteady is developing right now. Its called Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League. The game will features some of your favorite anti-heroes Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang and Deadshot. I am excited this game after watching James Gunn The Suicide Squad movie and it’s was amazing ride! I would recommended watching it on HBO Max or buy DVD went released.

Marvel Studios is doing a great job with it’s movies and tv shows ( I love me some What If).  Along with Loki, Captain America and the Winter Solider along with WandaVision I would also recommended watch those shows. These show tie-in with MCU very well and have to watch the movies to know what’s going. DC Comics have to step up their movie and TV show game. Even though I don’t watch that many animated and live action DC shows. I wished Young Justice come back but I was not a fan of Titans.  Alright back on topic, lets stroll by memory lane and tell you about super heroes games I have played. First comic book game as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Turtles in Time on the SNES. That was the very first comic book game that I have enjoyed.

Although I never watch 80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon but watched live action movie in the 90s. Konami did a great job with adaptation this game. I made some blogposts about this game on my top 5 and Konami arcade games. Feel free to check them out and go into detail about them. There is some Batman games I have played like Forever, Vengeance and many more in retro days, PS1 era there were Spiderman which brought the same voice actors from 90s tv show. The game have villains like Doc Ock, Venom, Mysterio and Electro. I have fond memories playing this game and one of the best Spiderman IPs during PlayStation 1 era. Next was Turok series which I didn’t know it was a comic book game until later. N64 have very little comic book super hero games but Shadownman was one of them. Don’t get me started with Superman 64 with rings of death.

Is There Worst Comic Games

Well I have talk about Superman 64 and Batman Return of the Joker on N64. There is plenty of bad comic book games but I can name a few. Spawn on SNES wasn’t very good and The Tick (a Spoon wouldn’t save this game). There is a Hellboy game on PS1 which was abysmal and Danger Girl. Again I can’t name all bad comic book games but you get the general idea. That’s was back in the late 80s through mid 2000s decade. There is some games I heard of like X-Men Legends which plays similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance series. I never got to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 during PS2 days. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was on Nintendo Switch but not PlayStation 4 nor Xbox One. Speaking of Nintendo Switch, Marvel Midnight Suns is coming out next year or this.

I don’t Nintendo Switch has that many super hero games but The Wonderful 101 is one. Now present time there is a better Spider-Man game for Playstation 4/5 featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales. If you’re a Spidey fan I would recommended buying these games. Batman Arkham series is another one that comic book fanboys should buy. I think Batman Return to Arkham is available now on  Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In my opinion, Batman Arkham is one of the best DC Comics video games of all time. Utilizing the open world mechanics and fight off against the Dark Knight’s rogue gallery of villains. Teaming of with the Bat Family and using Bruce’s Detective skills. If you want to play with the Bat Family, there is Batman Gotham Knight.

Closing

Batman Gotham Knight allows players to play with Batgirl, Nightwing, Tim Drake Robin and Red Hood to defend Gotham City. Speaking of super hero team, there is Marvel’s Avengers which Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics create a great game. Now Black Panther expansion is out right now and Spider Man will make an appearance later. Crystal Dynamics  is making a Guardians of the Galaxy game with same engine as Marvel’s Avengers. I can’t wait to play but Star Lord will be only playable character which is sad.  But we will see how it goes but Marvel’s Avengers is available now on Xbox One/XS, PlayStation 4/5 and PC. Will you be apart of Avengers is save the world? There is so many comic book games like Scott Pilgrim, Sam and Max along with The Wolf Among Us.

I forgot the to mention The Walking Dead has some games (RIP Telltale Games).  When video game developers are comic book fans , then you know it will be in good hands. I talked with a streamer who plays comic book games and a vivid fan named DennisLA219 along BruceWayneBrady. Make sure to give these streamers a follow and they might spit some comic book facts. In conclusion, video games based on comic book or superheroes is a stepping stone went catering to the fandom. Again, I will not a comic book fanatic but I love me some great heroes adapting into a video game.
