What is Marvel Vs Capcom 2
Marvel vs Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes is the sequel to Clash of the Heroes developed by Capcom. MVC2 was released in 2003 on arcades (later on consoles afterwards). Capcom has collab with Marvel Comics to bring both characters into fighting game. Well the journey didn’t stop there, first Marvel Super Heroes was developed by Capcom. The game was based on Marvel comic storyline “Infinity Gauntlet Wars” which later on turn into a movie in MCU, Later on was X-Men Children of Atom which adapts storyline “Fatal Attractions”, X-Men Animated series borrow those elements. Due to those success of those two games. Capcom and Marvel teamed up again to create Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and X-Men vs Street Fighter. Popular heroes from the Marvel and Street Fighter Universe in one game.
That was only the beginning of this ride. Later on Marvel vs Capcom Clash of the Super Heroes was released in 1998. Capcom don’t want to put to many Street Fighter characters unlike the previous ones , They added Mega Man, Morrigan. Captain Commando and Strider Hiyu. In Marvel side, it’s Gambit, Warmachine, Venom and more. The rest where support characters that chosen by the CPU randomly. You have to fight your way until you face Onslaught final boss but older crossover titles was Apocalypse. MVC Clash of the Super Heroes was a commercial success and brought in fans of both companies. The big bad Marvel Vs Capcom 2 New Ages of Heroes was born.
MVC2 was a huge game character in Capcom versus series. The game add 3 vs 3 tag battle and assist type. Last MVC had two vs two but MVC2 step it up a notch. Marvel vs Capcom 2 has a large roster of 56 characters with re-usable sprites from previous versus games. What more can you ask for than large character roster size? There is some original games for the game and new faces. Such as Ryuheart, SonSon and , Amingo which are apart of the game story. Along with Abyss who fights like Konami boss with three forms. New Marvel character where introduce like Marrow (who model after Spike from X-Men Evolution) along with Cable. All of your favorite Marvel and Capcom characters re-appear in this game.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 is indeed one of the best crossover fighting games up to date. But all things must come to a end went Capcom contract with Marvel expire promoting hiatus on the versus series. Fan like Maximillion Dood and Justin Wong praise this game to be the best. MVC2 left a impact of fighting games and comic book fans alike. In 2011, Capcom renewed there contract with Marvel and start developing MVC3. Marvel vs Capcom 3 had some slight changes to the combo but retain 3 vs 3 tag. The roster was smaller than MVC2 due to creating new 2.5D sprites. They have added X-Factor which turns the tides in battle and making comebacks. MVC3 added new characters such as Thor , Frank West, Deadpool, Zero and more.
Other MVC titles
Marvel vs Capcom 3 plays similar to Capcom Vs Tatsunoko with 3 button controls. MVC2 had four button and MVC1 uses Street Fighter 6 button scheme. In the same year, “Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 was a updated game with dlc characters from pervious game. Along with new faces like Hawkeye, Arthur, Rocket Racoon and Iron Fist. UMVC3 plays the same as the original along with new stages as well. Later, we have another hiatus and Marvel Vs Capcom infinite was released in 2017. Alot of fans where happy but didn’t meet their exceptions as far in roster goes. There was one problem no X-Men and Fantastic Four characters along with Deadpool. Due to Sony owning these rights and Marvel gave it to them. Later Marvel did acquire Sony after this game was released.
MVC Infinite went back to 2 vs 2 tag battle like MVC1. They also have the gem system that Marvel Super Heroes had. I am not going to talk about the roster but go to see Black Panther and Black Widow in. I didn’t care for the Capcom side to much but could have put in some Rival School and others. Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite has some problem with voice actors and sprites which fans point out. Capcom did fix the problem but still turn off alot of fans. Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite did have a story mode for the first time. Ultron and Sigma wants to re-united the two worlds and take over universe. Heroes from Capcom and Marvel must stop these two. But Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was collecting dust.
Will MVC2 be Re-Released
Technically speaking fans has play Marvel Va Capcom 2 than Infinite. Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite is still fun game but not for everyone. MVC2 is still play in tournament and showcase on YouTube. Speaking of YouTube I mention Max early, he started a Twitter Hashtag #FreeMVC2 This caught the attention of Digital Eclipse who brought you Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection along with The Disney Afternoon Collection as well. Dood did a another hashtag awareness called #BringBackKI featuring Killer Instinct. The founder of Digital Eclipse did express interested in re-releasing Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on next gen console or PC. There is a catch, Digital Eclipse have to talk with Capcom and Marvel about the rights.
They don’t want to face a lawsuit in their hands. I had made a video about this as well (below). Physical copies of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 are very expensive and hard to find. Lucky I still got a copy of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on PlayStation 2. Along with Marvel Vs Capcom 2 shirt featuring some of the characters. Getting Marvel Vs Capcom 2 re-released will be a challenge indeed but hopefully Marvel will say yes or not. I have great memories with this game due to buying this on my birthday in middle school. Back in early 2000s, I was a huge fan of Street Fighter and X-Men animated series. I never got to play first Marvel Vs Capcom game but got my hands on second one. I don’t want to bored you too much on this story but this was my go to game.
There was no online back then but nowadays we need those rollback netcode for Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Lets pray for Max and Digital Eclipse success on getting MVC2 re-release to all platform included the Nintendo Switch. There Is a arcade cabinet by 1-UP if you want to buy it. I think Fightcade has Marvel Vs Capcom 2 rom and can run the game. But I am not successful at it but maybe someone is to get it to work. Fans praise this game saying “it’s Marvel Baby” and learning air combos as well. There is no game will come close to Marvel Vs Capcom 2 ever. Fun fact: Arc System Work Dragon Ball FighterZ implemented 3 vs 3 tag in there like MVC3. That was great to see the legacy live on.
