Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rescue Palooza
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rescue Palooza is a fangame developed by Merso X. The game is based on Mirage Comics on the same name created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Well in short, the plot is about four mutated Turtles Donatello, Raphael, Leonard and Michelangelo fight against evil villains. There main enemy is called “Foot Clan” led by Shredder (Oroku Saki). Four turtles trained under Master Splinter (Hamoto Yoshi) and named them after Renaissances painters. The Turtles hide in the sewers due to their appearance but willing to help others. Splinter disdain about going to the outside world or sewers. Splinter finds out about his rival named Oroku Saki to take over New York. Hamoto meets up with his rival once again in combat. That’s being said, Teenage Mutant Turtles Rescue Palooza is based on Konami arcade games.
Along with using a Streets of Rage engine called BOR (Beats of Rage). BOR is a beat em up engine similar to Mugen. Where creators make their ideal beat em up title whatever they want. There is some titles I have played like Zvitor Marvel First Alliance 2 and there is Justice League Legacy. Make sure to download these games and along with Mortal Kombat Defender of the Realm (not confuse with tv show). I am thin king about doing a video and blogpost about big three fighting game cartoons. Darkstalkers, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat Defenders of the Realm which these are notoriously bad. Back on topic, I will give a brief review about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rescue Palooza. Lets get started on this and why is a great remake.
The gameplay is very similar to NES version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You have three buttons (attack, jump and special which does take away your life). There is a special gauge like Tournament Fighters on SNES but can be built up while attacking enemies. Players can pick the four turtles and other characters from TV show. Mainly, Rescue Palooza is based the 80s show which voice clips are used. After defeating the boss and clearing the level, there is bonus to earn extra lives. Players can unlock characters and bosses as playable characters after completion. Rescue Palooza has 4-player local no online (it would be great). Fight enemies from TV show like Baxter Stockman, Kang, Rocksteady and Bebop along with others. Each character have different attributes such life, range, power and speed.
There is a story in this game, Shredder kidnaps all of Turtles friends to commemorate 30 years of their rivalry. Turtles is on a mission to rescue all of their allies include of Splinter. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rescue Palooza has some easter egg from other video games along with media. If you are a turtle fan spot them and share them. Don’t forget you have 8 lives or reset just like arcade. The problem is getting health in this game. Some level don’t offer a lot of health nor extra lives like arcade. That’s what my biggest problem with this game but I enjoy it. The soundtrack is rip from NES and arcade video games giving it a nostalgia rush. I am happy they put that in because I played it in Anime USA with con-goer.
I never grew up with TMNT nes game but Turtles in Time. Check out top 5 SNES Games blogpost along with Konami beat’em up. This game has a lot of reference and easter eggs in it. I remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighter stage in Channel 6 level. Love the intro of the 80s TMNT cartoon.
