Who is Crash Bandicoot and Spyro?


Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot and Insomniac Games Spyro the Dragon is back. During the PlayStation 1 era, these games were the Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog of Sony. Both Crash and Spyro are 3D adventure platformers. Crash Bandicoot plot is about titular character stopping Doctor Neo Cortex from conquer the world. Spyro the Dragon storyline changes drastically throughout the series. The first Spyro game, Spyro and his companion Sparx, journeys thought the dragon kingdom to stop Gnasty Cnorc. Both Spyro and Crash crossover in the past. They have appearance in Skylanders series because Activision acquired the rights. A crossover game on Game Boy Advance called Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto’s Rampage and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy. Enough about that, I will tell you what is the difference between them.

Staring with Crash Bandicoot gameplay mechanics and playstyle. Crash movesets is simple but changes throughout course of the series. He could jump on enemies and spin like a Tasmanian Devil. Players could collect Wumpa Fruit to gain extra life. Crash has a helper called Aku Aku, collect three and gain invincibility. In Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, he could body slam and slides on the ground. There are bonus level just like Donkey Kong and ride on animals. Spyro mechanics is little different than Crash Bandicoot. He could breathe fire and charge with his horns. He could glide and eats dragonflies to recover health. There are other abilities in Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage by earning money bags. Spyro could fly and look for loot in-game. In comparison, Spyro has the most abilities than Crash Bandicoot. Let talk about Spyro and Crash remakes.

Why remake Crash and Spyro?


These are two unlikely heroes, that fan never thought it return to next gen consoles. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy just release in June 2017 and fans praised it to be one of the “Best Remake”. This game added manual and automatic saving unlike the original game. Time trials and play as Coco in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. Spyro Reignited Trilogy will probably added addition content when release in September 2018. Vicarious Visions and Activision did a great job with bring these franchise back. Why remake Crash and Spyro folks may ask? These were PS1 pride and joy, although both games are not created with the same developer. Gamers have fond memories of defeating Ripper Roo (I hate that boss) and Ripto. In Spyro getting those dragon eggs and talisman in each level.

Crash Bandicoot going into warp rooms in Cortex Strikes Back. Also getting 25 crystals and going though Time-Twisting Machine in Warped. It was sad that Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog had to give them away. I am happy that they’re back in the gaming scene. After the Spyro and Crash trilogy, everything went downhill. All people was surprised that Crash started talking. Crash made an appearance an Uncharted 4, which was nostalgia for me. N. Sane Trilogy was not only on PlayStation 4 but Nintendo Switch, Steam and Xbox One. Reignited Trilogy will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Activision is reaching out to other consoles as well. In the future, we will see more remastered games from PS1 and other retro consoles.
